sewing with friends

Once upon a time our basement was Mr. Tripp's space. He kept
a workout bench, and his dear trophies down there. But as time
passed the kids got the basement to play in and now it's my turn.
I have laid claim to the basement and made it my new sewing room.
I used to sew at the dinning room table, but since we eat at the
same table 3 times a day it made it a little inconvenient.
There is only one draw backs to the basement, my new sewing friends.

The dear trophies.

Their eyes watch me as I work.

Always watching.
CREPY! Right?

the gift of giving

I love gifts. I love getting them but I love to give them more.

*****

This past Valentines Day my younger sister Annie ran off and got married (out of state).
Mr. Tripp and I were unable to go. =(
Annie and her new husband Mark are having a wedding reception this weekend. Sadly I could only find $14.78 in my wallet today and well it would tacky to show up empty handed. So a hand made gift from my heart, not my wallet is what they will be receiving.

(the happy couple)

1. I found some pictures that Annie had posted on facebook of her far away wedding. I looked for side shots because that what I need to make the silhouettes.

2. Traced the out line of their faces with a black pen. This out line will be where you cut to make your silhouette so take your time. I didn't trace some of the fly-away hairs on my sister and re-moved any double chins (we all have them and I know I would want mine cut away if I could).

3. I cut out on the photo silhouettes (the one on the left is the back side of the photo)

4. I then traced the photo silhouettes onto the back of black card stock (on the right is the back side of my black card stock)

5. I very carefully cut the silhouette out of the black card stock.

6. Once I had both of my silhouettes cut out I added some accessories to them (sorry no photos). Annie had Pink flowers in her hair and Mark had a pink flower on his jacket. Plus I added Annie's earring and necklace. I did these the same way as the Face silhouettes.

7. I used my cricut to cut out the word "LOVE". If you don't want to do this step I think it would look just as nice without the word.

8. I used a picture frame that has a glass front and back and I glue sticked the silhouettes and letters down.

And finished products. I think it will be a wonderful gift. Just please don't tell Annie how much I spent. $0.00
I think she'll LOVE it anyway.

YUM. Lemons.

I LOVE anything lemon. Lemon candy, lemon-aid, lemon bars, lemon and lime juice squeezed on everthing. So I was super pumper when I found this lemon pie recipe.

This is the best lemon pie I have ever had and its super easy to make. I got the recipe from Dana at MADE. She has one of my favorite blogs.

"The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty."

I wish these were my words but... no. I truly believe that God gave us the ability to create so that we could be just a little bit like him. He is the ultimate creator and we all benefit from his talents.

What's black, white and pink all over?

What's black, white and pink all over? Penny's party. I had so much fun decorating for Penelope's party. I might have gone a touch over board.

Penny in her b-day outfit and party hat, both momma made.

ALL the presents. Thank you friends!

Front of the house

Tissues pom wreath on the front door.

Baby cloth from birth to one year hanging on the cloth line

Tissues pom chandelier

banners

more poms

and more.

Dessert table

soooo many cup cakes

soooo yummy!

party favors

pin-wheels

goodie bags filled with, well goodie

bubbles

And the birthday girl and her very happy momma.

Let her eat cake

Lets talk CAKE. In my opinion thats the most memorable part of any babies first birthday. Getting to eat sugary messy cake. I love to watch them dig into the frosting and cake for the first time.

IT'S THE BEST.

Penelope's first cake was no exception.

She was not dainty or lady like.

She attacked her cup cake.

And she devoured it.

birthdays and blessings

This past saturday we celebrated our babies 1st birthday. Any time one of my kids celebrates a birthday I thank God. I thank Him for giving this wonderful little person to us, to hold, to kiss, to hug, to teach, and to teach us. My children are a daly reminder of Gods love. A daly reminder of his grace and blessings. A daly reminder of his joys and goodness.
People OFTEN ask me if I done have kids. I alway find this question odd. Other than the gift of Christ, my children are best blessing God has given to me. Why would I ever want to be done allowing God to bless me with children? And why would I presume that I know how many children God wants to bless me with. He may be done growing my family or He may choose to bless me with 5 more kids. Ether way I will continue to count my blessing on birthdays and every other day.

thrift store cake pedestals

Yesterday I went to my favorite thrift
store. I just wanted to go one last before all the kids are out of school. and as usual there were lots of great finds. A throw pillow, hand bag, plates, candy dishes, a ottoman that I plan on re-covering and much more.

I love DIY project and I had seen this one several month ago and have been dying to do it. I decied Penelope's 1st birthday bast would benefit for some new cake pedestals. I used the candy dished and plate I found at the thrift store.

Cake pedestals

plates, candy dish
and an egg cup.

I found two matching milk glass candy dishes. LUCKY ME!

White gorilla glue

a little glue and dry time.

AND FINISHED!
Phil asked were I got the money to buy "that thing". My total cost $11.66.

I couldn't be happy with how well they turned out. I love the mix-n-match look they have. How perfect will they be at sweet Penny's party.

I will post more stuff as I get it done,
